When I first got my Jaylen Harrell eval written up and added to the draft guide, Zach shot me a text and told me he thought I needed to do a little more tape study on the guy. I wish I could get as high on the pick as Zach is, but Harrell was my 25th ranked edge rusher in the class. When the Titans were on the clock, I was begging them to take Gabriel Murphy out of UCLA. The fact that that dude went undrafted had me wondering just what the hell I missed on him because he had some good tape and I think he’ll be a factor at some point for Minnesota (who also added Dallas Turner, mind you). Harrell was actually my 7th best edge rusher available when the Titans drafted him.
Maybe I was super low on him, but I wasn’t impressed with him at the Senior Bowl. Now, he wasn’t in that class of guys that went out there and really shit the bed like Tez Walker and Willie Drew. But, against some stout offensive line competition, I just didn’t feel like he did anything to really stand out at all. When I paired that up with the Ohio State tape, I honestly just didn’t see a player worth evaluating any further. He seemed like such a liability in run defense and I wasn’t impressed with his hand usage. I felt he was neutralized and washed out of the play far too easily to project as a factor at the next level. After the Titans drafted him, I knew I’d have to take Zach up on his request. So, I’ve since popped on Harrell’s tape against Alabama, Washington, and Penn State.
