Film Friday: The Grit of Gunnar Helm

Some blocking reps and some touchdowns - what more could you want to see from a tight end?

I don’t know if this is the sicko in me coming out or what, but the tight end room is going to be among the most fascinating rooms to watch this summer. Why? Because I have no fucking clue who “the guy” is going to be. I’ll admit I have no real idea how this offensive coaching staff views the tight ends they had on the roster prior to the Draft. We got another year of Chig Okonkwo being poised for a breakout campaign that took too long to ramp up. How many years have we said “Chig got hot down the stretch” now? Sure, Brian Callahan and Nick Holz could probably find more creative ways to use him (assuming they want to), but this “down the stretch” thing has happened across two staffs now with Okonkwo. Josh Whyle certainly looked the part. I figured he was going to be the one to rise up and lay unquestioned claim to the TE1 spot last season. Whether it was injuries or a flat out failure to seize the moment, he disappointed in 2024. Outside of those two, the Titans have Thomas Odukoya and David Martin-Robinson. Both have shown flashes, but neither is going to be counted upon to make a real difference in this offense.
