I feel like I’ve been on an island this offseason, pounding the table for the Titans to adequately address the inside linebacker position. No one listens to me, especially the Titans. It can’t possibly be that I’m just overvaluing the position in a way that no one else is. It’s that they just won’t listen to me! But, folks, I have seen what having a Dre Greenlaw and a Fred Warner has done for the San Francisco 49ers, and I want that for my favorite team. Is that so much to ask?
Regardless, the Titans allowed the free agent linebacker market to dry up with nothing but Kenneth Murray to show for it. I hope their enthusiasm for Murray yields dividends, but I don’t see him as the rangy zone patroller that can diagnose passing concepts and cover guys down the field. To fill that role, the team would have to look to the draft, where the crop of talent compared to value was not that great. I didn’t think any of the top guys in this class were deserving of the pick at 38, but if they waited too long to address the position, they’d be picking from a group of developmental dudes that had a long way to go.
