It wasn’t a good afternoon to be Nicholas Petit-Frere. To say the Titans right tackle struggled might be an understatement. He was bad on Sunday, and for his efforts, he was benched late in the game for Jaelyn Duncan. Duncan wasn’t much better, but the statement was made loud and clear: it’s not enough from NPF. Right now, we don’t know who will be the right tackle on Monday night against the Miami Dolphins, but until we see marked improvement from that spot, I’ll continue to believe that it’s a hindrance to the overall success of this team. The way I phrased it to Zach this morning was “right tackle is the hole in the boat right now and it could sink the whole thing.”
It’s bad news if defense believe they can just line up 1:1 with the right tackle and not only win the rep, but dominate the rep and generate pressure. It just makes everything else easier. That’s not to mention the issues it causes with timing of the passing game, clearing out holes in the run game, shell-shocking the quarterback into making rash decisions, etc. It’s not good, and if the Titans don’t figure out a way to compensate for this weakness, we’re going to have to live with an incomplete evaluation of Will Levis and this offense as a whole.
