In today’s Weekend Rewind, I am going to talk about one of the best celebrity odd couples out there: Conan O’Brien and Timothy Olpyhant.
Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend
I know this isn’t about sports, but I really need to put this on your all’s radar if it isn’t already. First off, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend its one of the bet podcasts out there. Think of all the great interviews he’s had on late night and then stretch that out to 60+ minute episodes where gets to deep dive and without filter. It’s amazing.
It has become a tradition for my wife and I to listen to the podcast together now. In fact, after her grandfather died in 2021 around Christmas, we spent the whole way up to Michigan and whole way back listening to this podcast together.
Traditions matter, as I detailed last week, but let’s get to the main point: Timothy Olyphant and Conan O’Brien are the celebrity best friends you probably didn’t know existed. They take vacations together, with their families, they go out all the time. Like they’re legit friends. It was wild the first time I heard it.
Their on-air chemistry is off the charts, I will share a few clips, but if you didn’t know: Olyphant is freaking hilarious. The episode above is one of the first episodes of Conan’s podcast, but also Olyphant’s first appearance. It’s great. He does this really funny funning gag with a fake advertisement. you’ll love it.
He is on this week’s episode, and the podcast also started doing a video format.
Great stuff. Just a glimpse into the show and their friendship.
Timothy Olyphant: Late Night Guest
Conan O’Brien has a lot of great guests. There are four that surpass them all though: Norm MacDonald, Paul Rudd, Bill Burr, and Timothy Olyphant.
Every time Olyphant comes on the show it derails into just hilarious stories and schticks. I could go down a rabbit hole on each of those guests, and I may already have this morning writing this, so I better get out real quick, but I will leave you this last clip, and hope you enjoy their chemistry, and go down a rabbit hole of your own.
Sports: More Ran Carthon Stuff
I will provide you with one actual sports thing. Ran Carthon recently went on Green Light Podcast with Chris Long. It was a great talk worth your time: (1:37:20)
