Hope everyone had a good Turkey Day! If you’re like me, you may have been feasting on all of these Mike Vrabel rumors circulating around the NFL news cycle right now. We are going to take a look at each of the “big two” rumors today and break them down based on what we know and also talk about what we don’t know that everyone assumes.
None of this that I am talking about is reporting or sourced. I am just giving my honest assessment and opinions based on the two reports from Dianna Russini and Greg Bedard, as well as, various other media people who have alluded or flat-out said stuff. As well as, the actions/words of those involved with the Titans side of things. Just my takes on what has been said, that is all. Take it or leave it. Believe it or don’t. That’s your choice.
First, I want to talk about a few thoughts from the Panthers game, but it was such a boring game there isn’t a lot to take away from it.
Panthers/Titans Takeaways
Dillon Radunz: I think we can all see now why Radunz has been playing at guard instead of tackle. It turns out this staff isn’t idiots (at least about this), but he garners two more penalties and wasn’t strong at the point of attack. Heading into this game, Radunz has a 3.1% sack rate and a 16.3% pressure rate as a tackle for the Titans since being drafted. Daley was 2.4% and 10.2% in 2022. Dillard is 3.7% in sack rate and 13.3% in pressure rate for 2023. Two things can be true: Radunz isn’t a tackle, but he is and has been their best option at a tackle spot.
Jaelyn Duncan: Wasn’t always pretty but he won a lot of 1v1 against Brian Burns. He did allow at least one sack, but for a sixth-round rookie, he did a lot better than anyone else that has played that spot. My idea is, let Duncan get quality reps at LT the rest of the way and then if you draft Olu or Alt, put Duncan at RT. Problem solved. In other words, unless Duncan gets unstoppable as the year goes on, he can’t be the answer at LT for 2024.
Will Levis: Had another efficient day. Excluding your MNF quarterbacks, Levis is 15th in EPA+CPOE. He had the 5th highest success rate yesterday at 53.6%. He also was still top 10 in air yards, ranking 8th with 8.6. What sucks is that it could’ve been better! Not to say Levis had a terrible or bad day, just that he missed a lot of open receivers. DHop for a touchdown in which he is looking that way and then looked him off. KP was getting open a few times from his defenders. It happens. Still, a lot of promise, but a ways to go before you’re getting a CJ Stroud like performance.
Get Right Game: Finally, a lot of people will say this was a get right game for the team. Whether they’re talking about getting mojo back like Levis or the performance of the front four, it doesn’t matter, because right now you can’t call it a get right game, because we don’t know if they have “gotten right”. The Panthers suffered thousands (hyperbole) of injuries on the offensive line and the Titans front four were completely healthy. So, they should get tons of pressure. If they continue to get pressure and look great against their upcoming opponents, then you can look back and say “Yup, the Panthers were a get right game for this team.” To say it now is just silly.
