Titans Playbook: RB Mesh
Let's take a look at a wrinkle off the Mesh concept that the Titans are well-equipped to run with Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears.
I was sitting in my thinking chair on Sunday morning, sipping my coffee, enjoying the sounds of the birds chirping and the day awakening while flipping through my copy of Coach Dan Casey’s Trends in Offensive Football, Vol. 1. May we all be so fortunate as to enjoy our casual carefree Sunday mornings in such fashion.
Nonetheless, I came across a play in this book that immediately reminded me of the Titans. We’re going to be talking about Mesh today - which, if you’re unfamiliar with, is a passing concept involving two crossing routes from opposite sides of the formation. The players essentially run towards each other after breaking their routes in, and the benefits of that, especially against man coverage, are what you hear broadcast teams call “natural picks” or “rubs.” Receivers can spring wide open out of this concept if it’s executed well.
