Today is all about the Dubious Brother (get it? please don’t use this it is awful), Mike Macdonald. I am not going to lie, at first, I was intrigued by the idea of Macdonald if the Titans were to go defensive coordinator. He’s young, he’s forward thinking, he’s not stubborn in his ways, but the more research I did on Antonio Pierce, I started liking him a lot. So, will my research push Macdonald above or below Pierce?
The Vision
As a reminder, here is the vision for the Titans:
As the NFL continues to innovate and evolve, I believe the teams best positioned for sustained success will be those who empower an aligned and collaborative team across all football functions. Last year, we began a shift in our approach to football leadership and made several changes to our personnel to advance that plan. As I continued to assess the state of our team, I arrived at the conclusion that the team would also benefit from the fresh approach and perspective of a new coaching staff.
I believe the Tennessee Titans can and will be a premier National Football League franchise. It's what our fans deserve, and there will be hard decisions along the way.
Add in last year’s statement where she talks about being Super Bowl Champions here’s the vision:
Innovative
Evolved
Sustained Success
Aligned and Collaborative
Premier NFL Franchise
Super Bowl Champions
A Quick History of Mike Macdonald
I am older than Mike Macdonald who is 36 years old. I am not saying to be an age-ist, but more for the sheer fact that it does not compute in my head that we are now getting coaches considered for head coaching gigs that are younger than me.
He’s been in coaching since 2010 when he because a graduate assistant for the University of Georgia and moved up to be a defensive quality control assistant from 2011-2013.
He then joined the Ravens where he spent the next seven years with the team. Started out as a coaching intern, then went to a defensive assistant, and has coached both defensive backs and linebackers for the Ravens.
He was eventually hired by Jim Harbaugh, brother to John, to run the Michigan defense for one year as their coordinator. He did a really fantastic job there, so much so, that after long-time Ravens DC, Don Martindale, left for the Bills, the Ravens hired him and he has been the defensive coordinator there in Baltimore now for two seasons.
