Today is the day that about 90% of you have been waiting for: Bobby Slowik Day! I have talked about Slowik a lot of last offseason when it came to the Titans offensive coordinator search. They did not interview him last year, because obviously Vrabel hated any idea that Carthon would float out there. (half-kidding) It was a major disappointment they didn’t even try and that’s because their entire interview process for offensive coordinator was a sham. Ok, ok, I am getting mad for no reason, that guy is gone.
So, let’s talk about the guy that is currently the odds-on favorite (+100) to replace Vrabel, Bobby Slowik.
The Vision
As a reminder, here is the vision for the Titans:
As the NFL continues to innovate and evolve, I believe the teams best positioned for sustained success will be those who empower an aligned and collaborative team across all football functions. Last year, we began a shift in our approach to football leadership and made several changes to our personnel to advance that plan. As I continued to assess the state of our team, I arrived at the conclusion that the team would also benefit from the fresh approach and perspective of a new coaching staff.
I believe the Tennessee Titans can and will be a premier National Football League franchise. It's what our fans deserve, and there will be hard decisions along the way.
Add in last year’s statement where she talks about being Super Bowl Champions here’s the vision:
Innovative
Evolved
Sustained Success
Aligned and Collaborative
Premier NFL Franchise
Super Bowl Champions
A Quick History of Bobby Slowik
Yet again, I am older than a head coaching candidate because Slowik is 36 years old, turns 37 in June. There are a lot of similarities between Slowik, Callahan, and Macdonald. Like Callahan, Slowik is the son of a football coaching lifer. Son of Bob Slowik, a former NFL defensive coordinator, Slowik has been around the game his whole life.
At the age of five, Bobby was around NFL football, as Bob became a defensive assistant to the Super Bowl Champion Cowboys in 1992. From there it never stopped. Bob Slowik eventually linked up with Mike Shanahan in Denver in 2005. Bob went then followed Shanahan to Washington in 2010 and a year later Bobby joined the Washington staff as a defensive assistant.
When Kyle Shanahan was assembling his staff for his head coaching gig in San Francisco, he hired Bobby (who will be known as Slowik from here), as a defensive quality control coach. After two years, Shanahan moved him to the offensive side of the ball as his offensive assistant, and then in 2021 he became the offensive pass game specialist, and in 2022 was promoted to offensive pass game coordinator.
When Demeco Ryans got the job in Houston, he brought over Slowik to be offensive coordinator, and as we all just witnessed, it was a fantastic hire because pairing him with CJ Stroud led to the dismantling of Tennessee golden boy, Jim Schwartz’s defense.
