The day everyone has been waiting for, an in-depth analysis on the Lions coordinator…Aaron Glenn. Out of all the deep dives I have done I have found Macdonald the most informative and now Glenn has the most fun. I had a lot of fun reading up on Glenn’s back story, coaching philosophies, and influences. It is really easy to see why he’s the highest graded defensive coordinator in the league according to players and why he is so well respected around the league.
Today’s article isn’t going to feature pro’s and con’s, it’s going to be more about you getting to know the man and why he is such an easy guy to root for.
The Vision
As a reminder, here is the vision for the Titans:
As the NFL continues to innovate and evolve, I believe the teams best positioned for sustained success will be those who empower an aligned and collaborative team across all football functions. Last year, we began a shift in our approach to football leadership and made several changes to our personnel to advance that plan. As I continued to assess the state of our team, I arrived at the conclusion that the team would also benefit from the fresh approach and perspective of a new coaching staff.
I believe the Tennessee Titans can and will be a premier National Football League franchise. It's what our fans deserve, and there will be hard decisions along the way.
Add in last year’s statement where she talks about being Super Bowl Champions here’s the vision:
Innovative
Evolved
Sustained Success
Aligned and Collaborative
Premier NFL Franchise
Super Bowl Champions
A Quick History of Aaron Glenn
Much like Antonio Pierce, Aaron Glenn was typically a staple of my Madden franchise drafting strategy. However, Glenn’s path to defensive coordinator of the Lions started out with Bill Parcells forcing him to be a scout first.
Glenn started out, at the demand of Parcells, as a personnel scout for the New York Jets in 2012. Where he served two years under Mike Tannenbaum. From there he was recruited by former Jets DC, Mike Pettine, to join him on his staff over at Cleveland Browns as an assistant defensive backs coach.
After that, one of his former coaches, Sean Payton, sought him out to be the Saints defense backs coach and he was there from 2016-2020 before eventually following Dan Campbell to the Detroit Lions as defensive coordinator, where he has been from 2021.
