The Ups and Downs at Senior Bowl Practice
All Senior Bowl content is sponsored by Lyons Ford. If you’re looking at getting a new or used vehicle, hop in my DMs or email me, and I will get you hooked up with the people at Lyons Ford. I kinda have an “in” with the Owner, Richard Lyons. However, they’re not your typical dealership, they will always give you every discount you qualify for and give you you the most bang for your buck for your trade in vehicle. You won’t regret doing business with them.
Well, that was awesome. Senior Bowl Practice wrapped up yesterday, and now everyone in the media that love the grind, waits for the game on Saturday. Stoney and myself aren’t going to go home like some wimps, because we got a game to watch.
I am not sure why everyone loves to leave town before the game, but for me it’s important to see what happens in practice translate to a game. Certain players improved in some areas and/or worked their asses off all week, and I am ready to see the fruits of that labor.
Over at SoBros Network, Stoney has a fantastic article on how technique facts into this week’s practice. You definitely need to give it a read, but this just goes into the importance of this week’s prospect for a lot of these prospects who are trying to make a NFL team over the next few months.
Before we get into what I saw at practice, I want to take a minute and talk about what I didn’t see. All week, I didn’t see many respected, or well known draft analysts, actually paying attention to what was going on in the field. Instead, they were paying attention to each other or their phones.
Look, I get it. A lot of these semi-known to known draft analysts and NFL insiders are using this time to network, get scoops, or improve their own stock in their industry. Makes sense. However, they’re doing you a disservice if you follow them and they’re only watching about 20% of an entire practice.
That’s where you will probably see a lot of disconnect between Stoney, myself, a few others, on certain prospects compared to the bigger names in this industry. It was very funny to watch the younger guys from draft web sites, that cut their teeth on evaluating prospects, and got where they are by just being focused on the players, kind of just stand there and chat up with their own group.
If you’re only watching 20% of practice, how can you even truly evaluate a guy. You’re not seeing every play or focused on every detail. that’s why Stoney and myself went in with game plans and always had our eyes on the field. There’s only so much you can do, and it’s only respectful for an analyst to give 100% focus on players giving their 100%.
Today, I am going to give out a few awards and recognize some players for their effort, or even lack there of on the field.
As always, turn on notifications for 440 Sports, Stoney Keeley, and myself all on Twitter. We are going to be on the Hot Read Podcast at noon today, do a Senior Bowl only Mock Draft on the Unofficial Titans Podcast, and going to be in the press box at the game tomorrow.
