The Organizational Structure
Hey, I love you all. Even the ones that are free subscribers that still haven’t paid! So, I am going to reward all subscribers with this handy dandy Titans Organizational Flow Chart!
Notes:
It’s easy to see why Chad Brinker now has additional duties and oversight and works with Ran Carthon and reports directly to Amy Adams-Strunk
With no confusing power structure anymore, I wonder if some of these people will be replaced.
Bryce Wasserman (Manager, Strategy) may fall under Sarah Bailey’s (Director, Football Research and Development) purview, but they don’t have Bio’s on the site, so I am not sure, so for now, they’re side-by-side
Anthony Pastrano may fall under Comms/Information Systems category
Frank Piriano may fall under Todd Toriscelli’s purview, but again, the Bio’s don’t distinctly reflect that
What Burke Nihill Said
Burke Nihill, Titans President/CEO, joined Ramona, Kayla, and Will on 104.5 the Zone, this morning. The link to the video is here. Here is what I found interesting (I’ll be paraphrasing) from the 20+ minute interview:
Brian Callahan was at the top of the list, but he fit their exact template of a head coach.
Lack of Clarity last year, and wasn’t acceptable moving forward.
Ran Carthon was the guy that fit Amy Adams-Strunk has someone who could bring the team forward into the current generation of the NFL.
Sense of excitement in letting Carthon do more, and has a lot to offer this team in 2024 and beyond.
No search firm needed, Ran Carthon, Chad Brinker, and Anthony Robinson were the search firm. Relied on their decades worth of experience in the NFL.
Carthon had a master class with this process.
Even interviewed players about these coaches.
On the vision: Wanted to leave room for the Head Coach to have their input help define the vision. Carthon and Callahan have a shared vision.
Built for Sustained excellence and consistent Championship contention.
The interview naturally evolved from interview to just riffing and workshopping on how to turn this thing around.
For example: what defines the perfect X wide receiver, how many exceptions to those definitions you can have, etc.
The structure is to limit distractions from Carthon’s responsibility. He is going to be able to pin his ears back and build a sustainable football team.
Amy is challenging people to always be better and makes tough decisions with excellence and high expectations in mind. The outside view may not see everything, or understand it, but every decision she makes is with a Super Bowl in mind.
Ran and Callahan are talking about the staff today.
They’re collaborating.
He’s not going to tell Callahan who he can or can’t hire.
He’s going to help “stress test” Brian’s ideas.
It was a major differentiator between all the candidates was Callahan’s staff. Who and why.
If there is a gap in Callahan’s staff that Ran can help with he will by providing names for Callahan to interview.
Let them (Ran, Chad, Brian, etc.) do what they do.
I’ll discuss various parts of this when we talk about the power for each person.
