The Senior Bowl: Top-50 Players
All Senior Bowl content is sponsored by Lyons Ford. If you’re looking at getting a new or used vehicle, hop in my DMs or email me, and I will get you hooked up with the people at Lyons Ford. I kinda have an “in” with the Owner, Richard Lyons. However, they’re not your typical dealership, they will always give you every discount you qualify for and give you you the most bang for your buck for your trade in vehicle. You won’t regret doing business with them.
The Senior Bowl game is over. I am hung over. But the content must go on. It was a fantastic game that wrapped up a good week of football and fun.
Again, I am not sure why everyone loves to leave town before the game, but that is their loss. Hopefully, you followed along on Twitter to all of the content we shared this week, and felt that between that and our articles and video content, you are way more informed about these prospects than you ever have been before.
Over at SoBros Network, Stoney has two pieces you should definitely check out. The first one is an article detailing all of the guard prospects at the Senior Bowl that could potentially replace Nate Davis should he not be re-signed. Jim Wyatt casually dropping a bomb in his mailbag sure was a move.
The other article is for the SoBros Patreon subscribers. Stoney talked about the 10 guys here at the Senior Bowl that he wants the Titans to draft. If you haven’t subscribed yet to the SoBros Patreon what are you waiting for? It’s the perfect complement to Stacking The Inbox.
Quick Senior Bowl Game Observations
Run blocking from both team was on full display. I thought the interior linemen got great push all damn day. I was pleasantly surprised by how natural Cody Mauch has looked playing at center. Tyler Steen dominated at LG.
Anthony Johnson Jr, acquitted himself well in the first half. He was asked to play multiple coverages and when he was manned up on a wide receiver, he made their life hell. Super physical.
Senior Bowl week turned into Payne Durham week and the Senior Bowl Game became the Payne Durham Game. He was outstanding blocking in the run game and was getting open all day. He made a spectacular catch just short of the goal line and got himself a 2-pt conversion.
Aubrey Miller Jr is a football guy. I do not care about his size. I do not care that he is from a small school. He has had a good practice all week and he continued that into Saturday’s game. He was flying everywhere and making plays. He’s awesome.
The Top-50 Players at the Senior Bowl
1. John Michael Schmitz | C | Minnesota
JMS is just a fantastic center and has firmly cemented himself, in my opinion, as not only the best center in this draft class, but the best interior offensive lineman as well. He is fast, physical, and gets to the second level with ease.
2. Darnell Wright | OT | Tennessee
Darnell Wright had a solid week here at the Senior Bowl. This shouldn’t surprise anyone at all. He’s a very good player and displayed strength and quickness in drills and during the game. The rumor is that the Pittsburgh Steelers are highly interested in him, and are even thinking about moving him to LT. Should the Titans consider the same?
3. Jaelyn Duncan | OT | Maryland
Unfortunately, Jaelyn Duncan didn’t get to play in the game. Not sure if it was injury or a business decision, but he showed up enough in practice throughout the week. He improved his technique and showed that he did have enough strength at the point of attack. He was trending towards beating out Blake Freehand for the left tackle spot.
4. O'Cyrus Torrence | OG | Florida
5. Tyjae Spears | RB | Tulane
Throw a dart at any of my articles for my analysis of Tyjae Spears’s week here.
6. Julies Brents | CB | Kansas State
7. Isaiah Foskey | EDGE | Notre Dame
8. Payne Durham | TE | Purdue
The Payne Durham hype train will be stopped. I will be speaking of Payne Durham until he’s eventually not drafted by the Tennessee Titans. He would be the perfect fit for this team. He blocked his ass off all week, including the game. No one helped their stock more this week than Durham who was the clear number one tight end.
9. Tyler Steen | OL | Alabama
Steen had a fantastic week here at the Senior Bowl, and he was used in a variety of different ways. He was a left tackle for most of the week and then shifted inside for the game at LG. He looked very good at both and will likely be a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
10. Jonathan Mingo | WR | Ole Miss
Jonathan Mingo has been the most consistent wide receiver this week, and easily the best. He had a few big plays in the game, but ultimately terrible quarterback play held him back. Mingo, like Durham, helped his draft stock out a ton this week.
11. Adetomiwa Adebawore | DL | Northwestern
A little bit of an upset pick, but Adetomiwa Adebawore, or Ade-Ade for short, was super impressive. Just a 6’1” wrecking ball on the defensive line. A lot of people like the next player a little more than Ade-Ade, but not me. I like the power, the tenacity, and the football IQ he showed all week.
12. Keeanu Benton | DL | Wisconsin
13. Cody Mauch | OT | NDSU
I moved Cody Mauch up from 18 to 13 based on today’s game. He was great and he played at center, guard, and tackle. He was best served on the interior where NFL teams will put him, but he held up well all game. He was getting push in the run game and was protecting the quarterback fairly well when he was tasked with pass blocking. Has more fight and fire than Dillon Radunz for sure.
14. Will McDonald IV | EDGE | Iowa State
15. Michael Wilson | WR | Stanford
Michael Wilson had a strong camp. He does such a good job of creating separation but all going up to get the ball at the catch point. Like most of the wide receivers this week, Wilson has been held back by poor quarterback play. He made a fantastic adjustment for a touchdown against both Jammie Robinson and Jay Ward.
16. Don'Tayvion Wicks | WR | Virginia
17. Keion White | EDGE | Georgia Tech
I desperately wanted to watch Keion White play the actual Senior Bowl game, but alas, we don’t always get what we want. He was thoroughly impressive all week, and while Foskey was steady, White had some of the best pass rush wins during the week. I really like what he can bring to a defense.
18. Anthony Johnson, Jr | CB | Virginia
My guy got himself a Pick-6! I absolutely endorse Anthony Johnson, Jr as a draft pick for the Tennessee Titans. He showed up all over the field today. He was physical in man coverage at the line. He was doing well covering his area of responsibility when asked to play zone, and well of course the INT up there. Great day to cap off a great week.
19. Xavier Hutchinson | WR | Iowa State
He’s a slant merchant, but he was constantly getting open and making catches doing that. I know Hutchinson can do more, but he didn’t get to showcase it this week.
20. Evan Hull | RB | Northwestern
This may be a little high for Evan Hull, but he took advantage any time he touched the ball. He was explosive and eye-catching all week. Sunday was more of the same gaining 60 yards on the ground in the first half. Hull was one of the first players who showed out on Tuesday’s practice.
21. Cam Jones | ILB | Indiana
Day Two was the coming out party for Cam Jones. He caught your eyes flying in on one play and ever since then he’s been showing up and showing out. What stood out the most, at least to me, was his vocalness on the field. He is a natural leader and is quick to make sure everyone is lined up correctly. He was always getting the defense pumped up and at today’s game he led the pregame warm-up speech. He got himself a tackle for a loss today.
22. Jayden Reed | WR | Michigan State
Jayden Reed is what people want Tank Dell to be. He’s explosive, fast, and actually can catch the ball in traffic. I was thoroughly impressed with what he was able to do in drills, and during the game he had a long touchdown grab down the field. These quarterbacks have no clue how to take advantage of his speed.
23. Kyu Blu Kelly | CB | Stanford
24. Matthew Bergeron | OT | Syracuse
25. Darius Rush | CB | South Carolina
26. Olusegun Oluwaitimi | C | Michigan
27. Lonnie Phelps | Jr | EDGE | Kansas
He’s a weirdly built defender, but Lonnie Phelps ha speed and strength. His motor always runs hot, and he had some massive plays today during the game. He caused a fumble and was in the backfield around the quarterback all day.
28. Chris Rodriguez | RB | Kentucky
Chris Rodriguez has the perfect build for a NFL running back. He is a smooth catcher of the football, and he showcased his fantastic vision and quick footwork today during the game. I may actually have him too low when I think of all the very good moments he had during the week. Someone is going to get a steal at running back. This is also why you don’t draft running backs extremely high.
29. Daiyan Henley | ILB | Washington State
Daiyan Henley was pretty much like he was all week. Reliable and steady. he didn’t make any splash plays but did jump on a fumble. Good player, who had a solid week.
30. Aubrey Miller, Jr | LB | JSU
31. Riley Moss | CB | Iowa
32. Jay Ward | CB | LSU
33. Blake Freeland | OT | BYU
As long as the defender goes high, Blake Freehand will handle business. The problem is, and it shows up on his game film too, if you get low and bendy you will be finding yourself the quarterback. On our drive down, Stoney talked about this very obvious weakness of Freeland’s and he was hoping that it would get solved this week. unfortunately, it did not, and he lost his starting LT spot by day three to Jaelyn Duncan.
34. Jarrett Patterson | OG | Not Dame
35. Rashee Rice | WR | SMU
I was supremely disappointed the most in Rashee Rice’s performance this week. His wow plays were too few and far between. I expected more, and I think Rice went from a second-round wide receiver to a third or even fourth-round wide receiver. He will need a strong combine to get his stock back up.
36. Dee Winters | ILB | TCU
37. Cameron Latu | TE | Alabama
Cameron Latu got the start for the American team in today’s game, and he deserved it. He was voted the best tight end by the defensive players he went up against this week, and again, he deserved it. While Luke Musgrave flailed, even though mainstream media will say otherwise, Latu took advantage of his time. He proved to be a better route runner and receiver than what got showcased in Alabama. He is also a very good blocker. A strong combine plus a strong Senior Bowl showing, and he is going to move up some boards.
38. Eric Gray | RB | Oklahoma
39. Andre Carter | EDGE | Army
40. Isaiah Land | LB | Florida A&M
41. Dorian Williams | ILB | Tulane
42. Steve Avila | OG | TCU
We are a pro Steve Avila household at the Mardi Gras Manor. He had a very solid day, and he was wrecking shop all week. He’s 6’3”, 332-lbs, and he will not be denied. He’s so fun to watch and he is going to turn into a nice road grader for some team.
43. Luke Musgrave | TE | Oregon State
Wake me up when he does something.
44. Ryan Hayes | OT | Michigan
45. Sirvocea Dennis | ILB | Pitt
46. Kenny McIntosh | RB | Georgia
I am probably weighing his performance in today’s game too heavily, but he really stuck out in a bad way. He wasn’t tough or explosive like other running backs were, and he kind of just blended in all week at practice too.
47. Christopher Smith III | CB | Georgia
48. Nick Hampton | EDGE | Appalachian State
49. Camrun Peoples | RB | Appalachian State
50. Tyson Bagent | QB | Shepherd
These quarterbacks are TERRIBLE, but he was the best one all week, in my opinion.
