Scouting Report: Jayden Daniels Is the Spiciest Quarterback in This Year's Draft
In the first full scouting report for draft season, I'm taking a deep dive into the skill set and potential of Heisman-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Happy Holidays, everyone - before we dig into my eval of Heisman-winning LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, I just wanted to take a moment to wish you well this holiday season and thank you all for your support of what we do here on Stacking The Inbox. It means the world to me to get a little note on a random Tuesday afternoon saying you read and liked my work or that there’s a particular prospect that you guys want me to work on. I’m just a dude who used the power of the internet to learn more about this game that I love. It’s never been enough to simply know that something works - I have to know how it works and why it works. It’s an awesome thing to be able to harness that in a way that means something to people here on our little corner of the internet. So, I’m grateful for you all.
Also, full disclosure - I’m writing this piece on 12/13 because my last day of work for the year is 12/15. I take two weeks off at the end of every year. No writing. No podcasting. Well, that’s a lie…I always say “no writing or podcasting” and then end up writing and podcasting, but it’s different when you’re not doing it to fill a slot on the content calendar. I borrow this practice from the music industry. My wife’s been in the music business for 13 years now (as soon as I can quit my day job and ride her coattails full time, you guys will be getting evals every single day), and apparently, it’s an industry-wide thing for offices to shut down collectively for two weeks at the end of the year. I love that idea. We all need a little time to rest and reflect at this time of the year. I say all of this to say that I hope you all get the chance to spend some quality no-phone no-device time with your loved ones. It’s a restorative practice that I’ve found gives me the juice I need to take on the new year head on. Now, let’s get on to the Jayden Daniels scouting report.
My “draft process,” if you want to call it that, is pretty simple. I watch a game here and there, take notes, and over time, my opinions about prospects in said games sort of form themselves. Through my notes, I begin to find common threads throughout each game. But, every now and then, I come across a prospect that is so intriguing that I just dig right in and obsess over them. I’ll watch five games or so, jot down notes, and then go read other analysts’ scouting reports. I’ll see a note about a game I didn’t watch and then I’ll have to go watch that game. My office really does turn into this meme:
