Mock Drafts: Dos and Don'ts for Titans Fans
I am adjusting back to Tennessee life after spending the week on the road in Mobile. I hope everyone enjoyed their content this week from both Stoney and myself. We had a blast and already I am looking forward to next year.
While we were mainly focused on the Senior Bowl and prospect, we did stay in the loop on certain news and rumors circling around the Titans. Later today, Braden and myself will be covering all of that on A Football Show at 1pm CST.
One of these rumors was the possibility of the Titans trading up to number one, and a Bears blog alluding to the fact the Titans could be one of the teams with an offer on the table. It’s smokescreen season, so you have to take everything with a grain of salt, but it would definitely make sense.
This of course leads to a wide variety of Titans centric Twitter Accounts to head to their preferred mock draft machine, and start dreaming away. I will be the first to admit, Mock Drafts are my guilty pleasure, but I also understand their fruitless, useless, and likely to always be wrong.
However, I do think Titans Twitter needs to adjust some of their mock drafting ways. So, I came up with a fun, quick list of Dos and Don’ts for Mock Drafting
The Official Dos and Don’ts of a Titans Mock Draft
1. Do: Always tag these two people who hate mock drafts
You should always tag people who don’t give a shit about your mock draft. I am serious. Why? Because it will always bring me joy and bring them nothing but misery. The following people do not care about your mock draft, opinion on players, and/or want to grade your mock, so please tag them:
@MikeHerndonNFL
@BuckReising
Like I said, they give zero fucks about your mock drafts, so tagging them is always a must.
2. Don’t: Drafting Darnell Wright without sound reasoning behind it
Darnell Wright is a great tackle prospect. However, his likely place is on the right side of the line. The Titans have a young player already at that position. So, if you’re drafting Wright, what’s the reason? Is it because he has a shiny orange T on the side of his helmet? I’d say that is about 90% of the reason for most.
Are you switching one of NPF or Wright to the left side? Why would you take one of these players and switch them to a position they don’t naturally play? Oh, right, it’s because of the shiny orange T on the side of the helmet. At the end of the day, the pick is better spent on prospects that have their natural fit at a position that is currently open on this team.
3. Do: Trade away Tannehill, if you’re trading up for a QB Prospect
Look, I will talk later this week about Ryan Tannehill vs The Trade-Up, however, if you’re going to trade with the Bears or another team for one of the quarterbacks, you need to go ahead and trade away Tannehill.
That is likely how it will go down anyways. There would be no reason for the Titans to trade picks away and move up for one, if the quarterback isn’t their guy. So, trade away the guy that they declare isn’t their guy, and grab some more draft picks. Not only are you doing something that the Titans would likely do, but you’re also going to have more fun, because you get more picks!
4. Don’t: Listen to the losers who say Tannehill doesn’t have any trade value
These accounts are dumb as hell at this point. I had a few who said no one is going to take him in a trade, and they follow me. I look at them and think: “it says you follow me, but do you read, listen, or watch anything I create?” Because at this point to think Tannehill has no trade value is asinine and ignorance at its finest.
He is an above average starter, has a contract that can easily be re-worked, and some teams may value Tannehill over the unknown that I drafting a QB prospect not named Bryce Young. Even Young has some unknown to him.
I don’t think Tannehill is likely to go for a first round pick, but I do think a team would trade a few mid round picks. We saw Wentz get traded and Tannehill is 1,000,000 times better than him.
5. Do: Use the late round draft picks by drafting Senior Bowl players
I will also write about this more in-depth as we get further into the offseason, but just because Jon Robinson is gone doesn’t mean the Senior Bowl is dead. In fact, instead of drafting some random filler players in the later rounds, because you don’t know all these players, go check the Senior Bowl roster.
In fact, just look at mind and Stoney’s Senior Bowl coverage. There are a lot of late round Senior Bowl players available in the mock drafts. So instead of drafting Nikko Remigio or Starling Thomas, go and look for some Senior Bowl guys to fill those voids.
6. Don’t: Trading away players that aren’t going to be on the Titans roster
This was something I caught on my tweet with my mock draft last night. I was shocked by the amount of people who shared mock drafts showing them trading away Bud Dupree, Robert Woods, and/or Taylor Lewan. These guys, specifically Lewan and Dupree, will definitely not be on the roster by the start of the league year in March.
7. Do: Subscribe to this newsletter and also SoBrosNetwork.com
This will be a free article for a limited amount of time, and it does not include my normal attention grabbing information with hard hitting analysis, but that’s why you should subscribe to see what I am talking about.
I have written 17 paid articles so far, and we are one week away from my one month anniversary. If you subscribed you’d be at $0.24 per article. I have talked extensively about Ran Carthon, offensive coordinator candidates, and the Senior Bowl, among many other things.
You’re essentially, by the time February 13th rolls around, would have paid less per article than you would pay for one of those gum-balls in a grocery store dispensers. Not only is it less money per article than a gum-ball, but less likely you’d get COVID or some other disease from it.
If you are already subscribed, thank you, but please share these articles, and all of my articles on your social medias. Friends, family, enemies…they all deserve the best Titans content out there!
