The first wave of free agency is officially over. The teams are solely focused on the draft and that means it is a good time to do my next Mock Draft. This time I am going to do a different spin on it. I am going to take the four most popular mock draft machines and pit them against each other.
I am not only going to do a 7-Round Mock Draft for the Titans with each of them, but also compare an auto-drafted first round. I even created some fancy data tables to make sure it’s easy to read and see. At the very end of this piece I am going to do my first round all 31 team mock draft without the use of a machine.
Let’s see how different the mock draft machines are with the full 31-team first round.
It’s a Mock-Off: Full 1st Round
Biggest Snubs: Mazi Smith was a popular snub from the first round, but The Draft Network had the biggest snubs by far. In fact, TDN owns three of my top six biggest surprises, two of which are snubs.
Not only was it a massive shocker and surprise that Christian Gonzalez would go to the Eagles at 1.31 (WTF??), but they also had Joey Porter Jr and Bijan Robinson falling out of the first round. no freaking way does that happen. they need to hurry up and fix this machine. The algorithm is way out of whack.
Biggest Surprises: Besides those three above, there are a three surprises, but the biggest surprise by far is NFLMockDraftDatabase.com having Will Anderson, Jr going first overall. that is absolutely insanity. I am not entirely sold that C.J. Stroud is a lock at one overall, but this takes the cake.
Then there’s Bryce Young falling all the way to 23 overall to the Minnesota Vikings. The MDDB is taking some crazy pills with that one. Young won’t fall out of the top-5 because someone will trade up.
While I am not surprised Will Levis fell, I am super shocked that the Eagles would be the one to draft him. I guess there is a scenario where they know they’re not going to pay Hurts, and draft his replacement, but going from Carson Went to Jalen Hurts back to Carson Wentz 2.0 seems insane. Massive shocker.
Totally Agree: I totally agree with Michael Mayer (or any TE) at the Bengals pick. I also have come around the last week or so to Lukas Van Ness being the poor man’s Nick Bosa in Houston at 12. It makes sense from a team building standpoint and Demo Ryans wanting to duplicate the SF model as much as he can.
Totally Disagree: I 100% disagree that both Clemson defenders go in the top-10. In fact, I don’t think either go in the top-10. Kelee Ringo going ahead of Deonte Banks is a travesty to my eyes.
What They Said about the Titans:
At this point I am more surprised if the Mock Draft Machine doesn’t pick Paris Johnson, Jr. There is absolutely no way that the Titans select Devon Witherspoon over Paris Johnson, Jr. PFF got that one way wrong.
I do think, that while there isn’t true value, that if PJJ is gone like in MDDB’s mock draft, and Skoronski is still there he is likely the pick. They have a massive hole at guard despite what they think about Jamarco Jones.
