We were cruising along during the day three broadcast of the NFL Draft. Energy was high, even if it was weird energy, and we were just having fun. Then the Tennessee Titans draft Jha’Quan Jackson in the sixth round and the wind came out of our sails.
Maybe I should’ve been more prepared that he was going to be the likely wide receiver they draft. After all, they brought in a high-priced veteran in Calvin Ridley, still have DeAndre Hopkins, and they seem to believe in a reclamation project in Treylon Burks. So, it was pretty clear that if the board fell a certain way, wide receiver would yet again become a late round flier. However, Jackson was the surprise, and again, maybe we should’ve paid attention to the signs and given more credence to Tyke Tolbert, the Titans new wide receiver coach, being at his Pro Day.
You could see the oxygen leave the room. The energy drained from our expressions as we were forced to have a therapy session. Talking through and trying to figure out the “why” together. To be honest, I am still trying to figure it out. So, maybe writing it out will help the confusion become clearer.
