Game Balls: Titans Deck the Patriots, 20-17
The Titans mowed down the Patriots with an impressive drive in overtime, and Amani Hooker sealed the win with an interception.
Brian Callahan needed that one. I would’ve started to really worry about his level of job security if the Titans weren’t able to pull that one off. As a fan of what Callahan has done on offense, I wanted to see him get some time to get this thing right. Given how the 2024 season started, I wasn’t so sure ownership would offer up the patience to do so. So, this was a game that he absolutely had to have.
This was an opportunity for a bloodletting - I thought the Titans should’ve won this game pretty convincingly given the matchups, and honestly, they probably could have. It could’ve easily been 14-0 Titans if not for a high ball from Mason Rudolph that ricocheted off the hands of Chig Okonkwo and came down resting in the hands of the Patriots. The offense had several more opportunities to pull away from them that they just couldn’t execute upon.
I started to feel like “oh no, here we go again.” The Titans were doing the things that had allowed games to slip away from them. The snowball was forming. But, I’ll give them credit - they stood their ground and found a way to finish this one out.
