Good Morning! Ok, so OverTheCap.com has put out Kevin Byard’s renegotiated contract. It sounds like a restructure but it is a renegotiation because it changed two of his base salaries and turned some of his salary into a roster bonus, instead of normally turning all of it into a pro-rated signing bonus like a restructure. Doing the roster bonus requires his approval.
I am only relaying what OverTheCap.com has detailed and confirmed (according to them) about the Kevin Byard contract. None of this is my information.

Pay cut? Renegotiation? Restructure?
So, as you can see above, the Rapsheet tweet wasn’t true in really the slightest. It led us to believe that the Titans were only saving $2.6m and there were some incentives to be earned by Byard to get his money back.
This is not the case at all. In essence, this is a renegotiation, with a high possibility he is not on the roster after this year due to a $4m roster bonus.
So, it is only a pay cut if he is not on the roster by the start of league year.
Much like it was only a pay cut if he didn’t hit the incentives. however, the key difference is this: IT IS a pay cut for 2023. He was set to bring home more cash in 2023 and now he isn’t.
This leaves the Titans a few options heading into 2024:
More time to renegotiate an extension that will likely be his last/final contract with the team for him to retire
Cut him before the March 2024 deadline and save money
Reward a player by just letting him play out his current contract and earning money he gave up for this year’s addition of DeAndre Hopkins

With all the cash we have next year I’d love to see the Titans stick with him or extend him so he can finish out his career here
