Film Rewind: Getting on Board With Peter Skoronski
One man's story of rewinding the film to re-evaluate Peter Skoronski's tape to try and get on board with the Tennessee Titans pick
Message From Zach: Hello! Yes, Major Announcement for the next Stage of StackingTheInbox.com! I have invited on board Stoney Keeley as a weekly contributor. Ever since we took a road trip to Mobile for the Senior Bowl, I have been figuring out a way to bring Stoney’s immense talent in front of the masses. Not only is Stoney a good friend of mind, he is low-key one of the hardest working individuals I have ever met.
So, I am excited that I get to work with him and he is going to Stack Your Inbox with a weekly Friday column about the Titans. He is also going to bring over all of his draft related content in 2024 to this site:
Big Board
Prospect Profiles
Film Studies
Tons More
These will be supplemented with my data for draft prospects giving you one of the best Titans-centric draft coverage available. Stoney is still going to be writing and producing tons of content over at the SoBros Network. Don’t worry about that!
Now that I have two new, massively talented writers on board, I wanted to do a quick rebrand of the site imagery and utilize a third tier for subscribers. The rebrand is simple. I just changed the imagery, but also color coded it. Images with a Cyan background will be your free articles and Images with a Navy article will be your premium ones.
Now to the new subscriber structure. I wasn’t going to bring extra additional content without there being a price. That’s just bad business. However, I am not charging more across the board. That, to me, is just bad business.
So, if you’re perfectly content missing out on the Friday article by Stoney and all of the extra draft coverage, and podcasts/videos that him and I will do on occasion. Stick with what you got. Whatever you’re paying for right now will get you the access you have grown accustomed to. With an added bonus of a Gameday Chat feature we will debut later on. So, if you’re paying the monthly/annual services, nothing changes.
If you want to subscribe to all of the amazing things that Stoney will do weekly, during the draft and what we got planned later on. You’ll need to switch to “Stacking the Inbox VIP Tier”.
This was formally called the “founder’s tier”, but it is an annual price of $61 dollars. Why $61? Well, Substack is fickle and doesn’t allow perfect customization. I only can offer three paid tiers, and the VIP tier has to be more than $60. It’s weird I know.
For Paid Subscribers: I believe you have to go into your settings to upgrade. You may be able to click the button below and change it as well. If you’re monthly you’ll need to switch to this tier to get full, unfiltered, and unadulterated access to Stoney’s content plus Titans draft coverage. If you’re annual, you’ll need to switch to this as well.
Now, according to Substack, the difference of annual tiers to this tier will be applied to the cost of the new tier. Any issues use request 308874 when *you* contact support. Here is the email as proof that I double check and what they said!
This new tier is going to be totally worth it. This is the next evolution of the Titans media market. Between Stoney and myself you will get the most expansive, detailed, and thoughtful Titans coverage in existence at the low price of $5.08/month. That’s on-par or way less than other premium content Titans sites.
This article will be available for current paid subscribers, but all further stuff will be for VIP Subscribers!
This is gonna be a freaking blast. Ok…now onto the article.
I have had mixed feelings about Peter Skoronski. I fluctuate somewhere between absolutely loving the pick and being a tad apprehensive at any given moment. And, I know Zach is going to be thrilled that I’m writing my first article for him under this new arrangement about Skoronski literally two days after he sent me a text to say that Will Levis moves the needle in terms of article hits, whereas Skoronski doesn’t. But, I can’t help what’s in my heart.
It’s gotta come out, folks. What’s in my heart this week is that I still don’t quite know why I can’t get fully as ‘on board’ as the rest of the draft community on Skoronski. There is something I can’t quite place holding me back.
Is he the safe pick? Absolutely. I make no bones about that. I didn’t rank ‘overall offensive linemen’ on my big board. Things were broken down between tackle, guard, and center. But, he would’ve absolutely been OL2 on my board. Zach wrote extensively about what Skoronski’s addition to this roster means for the franchise, and I hope you’ve read it. Otherwise, what are you even doing here?
I get the vision for it, and it makes a ton of sense. This offensive line was absolute gutter trash in 2022, and this regime made it the focal point of the offseason so that doesn’t happen again.
I’ve been asking people what Skoronski’s presence would’ve done for the 2022 offensive line all week to try and put into perspective how the tiniest of improvements could’ve drastically altered the outcome of the season. The margin by which this Titans team ended up losing the final seven games of the season was thin. An extra second’s worth of protection could’ve kept Ryan Tannehill healthy, could’ve allowed Treylon Burks to get open, or could’ve allowed Derrick Henry to at least get back to the line of scrimmage and find a hole. All they needed was one play to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars. Not to mention, the poor offensive line play makes it incredibly difficult to evaluate the rest of the offense because nothing works as it’s intended. It turned the offense into a hot mess.
So, presumably, this unit is going to be better in 2023, and that should have a ripple effect on the rest of the unit. I mean, how much worse can it really get? Don’t answer that question - it was rhetorical, and I don’t want to think about the implications of this shift in offensive line philosophy not working out. Was Skoronski a sexy pick? I’d say no, and it’s not about the value of drafting a guy who projects to be a guard at the next level. It’s solely about the prospect for me - there’s an element of ‘sexy’ that I thought was missing from his game when I first evaluated him. There’s some juice lacking. But, I’ve been thinking about it, and seeing all of the reactions to his drafting made me want to revisit my thoughts on him.
Skoronski isn’t a sexy player. But, you know what else isn’t sexy? Eating an entire meatloaf and spending the rest of the night burping and farting on the couch. You know what makes me feel satisfied to my core? Dipping my feet in an epsom salt bath, smoking a cigar, and enjoying a cocktail because I just ate an entire meatloaf and plan to spend the rest of the night burping and farting on the couch. That is pure soul satisfaction on a basic human need level.
Drafting Skoronski is burping and farting on the couch after eating an entire meatloaf. My brain has made that association - I’m going to feel pretty good and pretty content for quite a long time, but nothing about my appearance is going to make the cover of GQ.
“So, why so ‘bleh’ on this pick, Stoney?” You might ask. Well, let’s revisit my initial evaluation of Skoronski from when I first started piecing my big board together last November:
