Film Rewind: Addressing Concerns About Will Levis
Stoney Keeley is back with another film breakdown looking for light in the darkness of Will Levis's tape. [VIP Members Only]
First of all, thank you all for sitting in on my therapy session on Peter Skoronski last Friday. This one is probably going to be a little more intense. It really wasn’t all that hard to talk myself into Skoronski because he is one of the safest players in this year’s draft. This week’s Film Rewind? *deep breath* We may have a long way to go.
Had the Titans selected Will Levis at 11 overall, I might be inconsolable at this point. Hell, you probably still wouldn’t have heard from me if that were the case. As we did with Skoronski last week, let’s look back upon my initial evaluation of Levis - I actually wrote this back in November of 2022, when I was just starting to piece my big board together.
I get the vision. And, man - Levis can make some true NFL throws. He has the frame to be a punisher in the run game. People want Levis to be the next Josh Allen, and sure, if he gets in the right situation, he could get there one day. That’s going to be a roll of the dice, though. He can throw some rifles. He throws a pretty ball, and he’s accurate on the mid-range stuff. There are some deep overthrows on his tape, so I’d like to see him a little more accurate in that regard. And, I’d like to see him operate with a little more urgency against the rush. Felt like he’s a little slow in the pocket sometimes - as if he’s operating 0.5 seconds behind the rest of the field.
I can begin to swallow this pill by considering the fact that the Titans were able to snag Levis in the second round. They traded up from 41 to take him at 33 with the biggest need on the team already addressed in a guy who might start at left guard for this team for 10 years (yes, I was in the “offensive line is still the biggest need in the draft” camp). I can also accept the fact that I could be completely wrong about Levis, and that Ran Carthon and Mike Vrabel know more about scouting football players than I do, but I really don’t want to do that. I mean, hell…if I do that, the article’s over!
What else is there to write? “How do you cope with the Titans drafting Will Levis, Stoney?” Well, maybe I’m just completely wrong about everything I said. Follow me on Twitter @StoneyKeeley and thanks for coming.
