Film Friday: When Play Action Hits

‘Play action’ is one of those football terms that I think we all know to a certain extent. It’s designed to get the defense to react to the run and get out of position. When they do, the offense strikes with a pass. We know what it’s meant to do, and we can recognize it when the quarterback fakes that handoff only to pull the ball back in. But, because of broadcast angles, I don’t think we always realize in real time just how pretty it looks when play action gets the defense to bite. It fires me up when I see it on tape - a whole row of linebackers abandoning their coverage responsibilities to crash towards the line and leave open plenty of green grass behind them. It’s poetry. You guys know I like poetry. I came across a couple of plays from the Titans playbook that I’d like to share with y’all on this fine Film Friday.
