Who played the most snaps on defense in the entire NFL in 2022? That would be none other than rookie Titans cornerback Roger McCreary with 1,165 snaps. I know everyone has “rookie wall” and that missed interception engrained in their minds (short arms!! oh no!!), but there’s a reason that McCreary was this team’s iron man in 2022, and I want to dig into that a little bit today and ponder what it means for his sophomore season in 2023.
First of all, let’s talk about the pick. It confused a lot of people back in the spring of 2022. With the needs the team had, they went cornerback? In the second round? I dug it, though. Cornerback was a sneaky important need a season ago, and hell, I thought it was a sneaky important need this season as well. Hell, I wrote about McCreary as an option for the Titans in the first round in 2022. It made sense to me. I had the chance to scout McCreary at the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl, and after going back to watch his tape, my initial eval of him read as:
