Collectively, Titans fans still seem to be stressing out about what the team is going to do at wide receiver. I get it. I’m not there with you guys because I feel at least a little bit steady about the receiving room, though that may be a different article for a different day. Heading into the offseason, I said the most pressing need was to completely retool the offensive line. They’ve addressed that. I didn’t say it’s going to be better…I just said they addressed it. It’s hard to imagine it can be any worse than 2022, so I’m optimistic. For me, the biggest question mark for this team as we gear up for training camp is the cornerback group. They’re on shaky ground there, and I don’t feel like anyone else is yelling about it.
In case you didn’t read last week’s Film Friday, I’m a big fan of Roger McCreary, but it sounds like they’re moving him to the slot exclusively. Zach has been all over the weird vibes permeating the air around Kristian Fulton all offseason so far. I know that’s not exactly striking football analysis, but I don’t know how else to describe it - the vibes are off. Caleb Farley still has the talent to be reclaimed, but he’s no proven commodity. Elijah Molden, it seems, is moving to a more safety/hybrid role if you’re reading the tea leaves from the nuggets we’ve taken from OTAs. Chris Jackson is a solid utility player and depth piece. And, after he was pasted by the Buffalo Bills, Tre Avery straightened up and proved to be a solid depth piece in his own right. The Titans brought in a few undrafted free agents, but counting on finding a gem out of the bunch every season isn’t a very prudent strategy. In other words, tl;dr I am somewhat worried about the cornerback position heading into 2023.
That’s why I’m here to write about Sean Murphy-Bunting and dig into his 2022 tape a little bit today.
