Treylon Burks has been the most hyped Tennessee Titans player in recent memory. Hyped up not by the fans, mind you, but hyped up by the people who know him best: teammates and coaches. It is absolutely wild some of the things players are saying, its bordering on just way too much. Way too much hype for a guy who will likely not be able to live up to it. Not because of his talent but because of his opportunity.

While I have had low expectations for Burks, I have cautioned writing off players before they’re able to have their third year concluded. I called it the “Rule of Three” and talked about it more in-depth here, but I have had a very hard time living by that rule when it comes to Burks. I have been very vocal about how the Titans should not have Burks in their plans for the future when they’re making moves in 2024. For the most part, their moves were in line with that thinking. So much so, they have essentially put themselves in a prime position to trade him for a day three pick if they wanted to.

Yet here he is still on the roster and getting loads of praise for his efforts in the offseason and in practice. Which, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, so it is hard for me to completely buy in on this turning into a 1,000-yard season, but I do buy the fact that they’re all in on developing Burks and giving him more opportunities than he got last year.
