2024 Draft: Quinn Ewers and Bo Nix
Let's lump a couple of big games together and watch Quinn Ewers vs. Alabama and Bo Nix vs. Texas Tech
I took maybe a month off once the 2023 NFL Draft was in the books, and then I got to work on 2024, compiling notes and organizing the template for what would become my big board. I started reading mock drafts and positional ranking to get a sense of where I wanted to start on this beast. Two quarterback names kept popping up as fringe first rounders: Quinn Ewers and Bo Nix. Ewers was the closest to a consensus #3 behind Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, but I’ll admit….I hadn’t really studied him all that much. I’m not usually watching the Texas Longhorns on Saturdays. With Nix, it feels like he’s been in college forever. When he was a freshman at Auburn, it felt like the sky was the limit with him. He looked like he was going to become a bona fide first rounder before his play declined, and he became somewhat of an afterthought. After transferring to Oregon, he’s undergone a career resurgence, and now, he’s in the mix to be selected in the first round again.
Today, I start my work on both evals. Both of these dudes played in as big of games as you’ll play in in Week 2. For Ewers, it was a road trip to Tuscaloosa to play mighty Alabama in a hostile environment. For Nix, it was a trap game that Oregon was fortunate to win after some late game heroics on the road at Texas Tech. I didn’t want to decide between which game to watch…even thinking of flipping a coin to see who I would watch and write about this week…but nah, why can’t I do both? That’s the great thing about this platform. I can do both if I want to. Let’s do this notebook style today.
